We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Staff Accountant to join our team within a non-profit housing organization in the White Plains, NY area. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general accounting tasks with a strong focus on full-cycle Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, specialized housing grant/contract billing, and general ledger reconciliations.
Key Responsibilities: Accounts Payable & Receivable:
  • Follow all established AP and AR procedures, as well as any new accounting procedures implemented.
  • Verify invoice payment approvals, code Accounts Payable invoices, and enter AP into the sub-ledger.
  • Enter Accounts Receivable into the sub-ledger and post subsequent payments to clear receivables.
  • Process and pay accounts payable invoices and utility invoices.
  • Prepare checks for CFO review and signature.
  • Specialized Billing & Housing Program Operations:
  • Process and post monthly Suffolk County and NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) billing.
  • Process monthly Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) landlord rent roll and payment lease reconciliations.
  • Process and pay monthly EHAP Con Edison invoices.
  • Prepare and reconcile Westchester Rental Subsidy Program (RSP) landlord payments.
  • Process E-ZPass monthly property allocations.
  • Reconciliations & Financial Analysis:
  • Perform regular bank statement reconciliations.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Monitor and void agency outstanding accounts payable stale checks.
  • Analyze vendor expenditures and proactively inform management of trends, discrepancies, or concerns.
  • Department & Audit Support:
  • Assist upper management with internal/external audits, special projects, and overall department goals.
  • Qualifications4–5 years of relevant accounting experience (experience in non-profit, housing programs, or grant billing preferred).Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skill and attention to detail.
  • Motivated, adaptable, and a quick learner.
  • Comfortable working with complex calculations and financial data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and core accounting software.
