We are looking for a reliable and safety-minded Part-Time Rink Worker & Zamboni Driver to join our team. This versatile role combines general ice rink operations support with the skilled operation of the Zamboni ice resurfacer. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment and takes pride in maintaining a smooth, high-quality ice surface for skaters of all ages. Temporary position: September - March
Salary Range: $18 an hour
Weekly hours: 15 - 20 hrs.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Zamboni & Ice Maintenance: Safely operate the Zamboni ice resurfacer to clean and resurface the ice between public skates, lessons, and events. Perform pre- and post-shift inspections and basic maintenance on the Zamboni and other ice equipment. Monitor ice conditions and make necessary adjustments for optimal skating surface. Shovel, scrape, and remove snow/debris from the ice as needed.
Rink Operations & Facility Support: Assist with opening and closing procedures of the rink facility. Help set up and tear down for special events, hockey games, figure skating, and public sessions. Maintain cleanliness of the ice rink, player boxes, benches, lobby, and surrounding areas. Provide excellent customer service to skaters, parents, and visitors. Enforce rink rules and safety policies courteously but firmly. Assist with skate rentals, sharpening, and equipment management. Perform light janitorial duties including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal.
Qualifications
Experience and Education: Requirements Must be at least 18 years old (some facilities require 21+ for Zamboni operation).Previous Zamboni driving experience is strongly preferred; otherwise, must be willing and able to complete on-the-job training. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in cold temperatures. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a small team. Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
Essential Knowledge & Skills: Experience working in recreation, sports facilities, or customer service. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues. Knowledge of ice maintenance best practices. First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met. Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
