We are seeking a Substation Engineer with a strong Protection & Controls (P&C) background. This is a fully remote opportunity supporting utility, renewable energy, and transmission & distribution projects across the United States. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in substation engineering, with expertise in protection and control design, relay settings, schematics, and substation modernization projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and impactful infrastructure projects while collaborating with a highly experienced engineering team.
Responsibilities: Develop Protection & Control (P&C) design packages for transmission and distribution substation. Prepare and review protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, AC/DC elementary drawings, and relay panel layout. Perform relay coordination studies and protection system design. Support substation projects ranging from 12kV through 500kV.Develop bills of materials, cable schedules, and equipment specification. Coordinate with utility clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering team. Support substation upgrades, expansions, greenfield projects, and modernization effort. Participate in design reviews, quality assurance checks, and technical meetings. Ensure designs comply with applicable utility standards, NESC, IEEE, and industry best practices. Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities as needed.
Qualifications: Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.4+ years of experience in Substation Engineering with a focus on Protection & Controls. Experience preparing P&C design packages for utility or consulting projects. Knowledge of transmission and distribution substation systems. Experience with protective relays from manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Siemens, or ABB/Hitachi Energy. Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE, NESC, and NEC.Strong communication and client-facing skills. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. PreferredEIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Experience supporting utility clients. Exposure to relay settings and coordination studies. Experience with AutoCAD, Micro Station, or other design software.
