About the Role:
As a Credit Risk Analyst and Commercial Underwriter on the North America Strategy Risk team, you will be instrumental in managing and underwriting a portfolio of Stripe's largest and fastest-growing businesses. Your primary focus will be to facilitate growth objectives while meticulously mitigating credit risk. This high-impact role demands strong collaboration with Sales, Legal, Treasury, and Finance teams. This position is aligned with West Coast hours, with a strong preference for candidates located in the Pacific time zone.
Responsibilities:
- Directly engage with top merchants, ranging from venture-backed startups to established institutions, to assess their business models and financial health.* Develop tailored credit risk recommendations that effectively mitigate Stripe's exposure while supporting partner company growth.* Manage the credit portfolio by cultivating a deep understanding of risks across various industries, geographies, and operating models.* Provide critical insights to senior management to inform decisions on onboarding strategies, merchant pricing, and other key initiatives.* Contribute to the refinement of tools and processes to ensure the team meets key performance indicators, such as credit loss targets and portfolio coverage metrics.* Collaborate with internal and external partners to support merchants globally.

What you’ll need:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial risk modeling, and cash flow forecasting.* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.* Strong understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in evaluating financial statements and business models across diverse industries.* Ability to translate complex business and financial data into clear narratives, identifying potential credit risks and proposing dynamic mitigation strategies.* Excellent written, verbal, and problem-solving skills.* Meticulous attention to detail while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.* Comfortable interacting with CFOs and CEOs of top-tier merchants.* Deep empathy for entrepreneurs and a strong motivation to help them succeed.* Preferred: Strong technical expertise, including demonstrated experience with SQL.* Preferred: Strong data visualization skills and a passion for data analysis.* Preferred: Experience in the tech industry or other fast-paced, high-growth environments.
