Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and certified Transmission Technician with mechanic backgroundto join our service team. In this role, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, and rebuild automatic and manual transmissions across a variety of vehicle makes and models. The ideal candidate is ASE-certified, fluent in both English and Spanish, and possesses strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
Key Responsibilities: Diagnostic & Troubleshooting: Perform advanced mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic diagnostics on automatic and using scan tools, pressure gauges, and test drives. Transmission Rebuilding: Completely disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, and rebuild transmissions, torque converters, transfer cases, and differentials to OEM specifications. Maintenance & Repair: Remove and reinstall (R&R) transmissions, drive shafts, clutches, solenoids, and related powertrain components. Customer & Team Communication: Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with customers, service advisors, and shop personnel to explain technical issues, required repairs, and estimated turnaround times. Quality Assurance: Road-test vehicles post-repair to verify proper operation, shift quality, and resolve any lingering trouble codes (DTCs). Shop Safety & Documentation: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace while accurately documenting all diagnostic steps, repairs completed, and parts used.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 3 yearsof hands-on experience specifically performing transmission diagnostics, removal, repair, and complete rebuilds.
Certifications: CurrentASE Certificationin Automatic Transmission/Transaxle(A2) certification preferred). Language Proficiency: Bilingual in English and Spanish(fluent verbal and written communication in both languages required).
Technical Skills: Proficiency with modern diagnostic equipment, scan tools, shop management software, and electronic wiring schematics. Tools: Must possess a complete personal set of hand tools, specialty tools, and storage suitable for transmission service and teardown. Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record to perform test drives. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to lift, carry, or maneuver heavy components (up to 75 lbs independently). Capability to stand, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach overhead for extended periods in a standard automotive shop environment.
