Patent Attorney

Location: Washington, DCA growing intellectual property law firm is seeking a Patent Attorney with a Ph.D. to join its sophisticated Life Sciences & Chemistry practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys complex science, wants meaningful responsibility, and is motivated to build strong technical and legal expertise.

Key Responsibilities: Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications. Handle patent matters involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and related life sciences technologies. Analyze complex scientific and technical subject matter and translate it into effective patent strategies. Work with inventors and clients to develop and protect intellectual property. Conduct patentability and related technical/legal analyses. Draft and respond to Office Actions and other USPTO correspondence. Take increasing ownership of client matters as your experience and judgment develop.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related life sciences discipline. J.D. from an accredited law school. Active USPTO registration. Active U.S. state bar membership. Minimum 1 years of substantive patent prosecution experience. Strong scientific, analytical, writing, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining high-quality work.
