Environmental Specialist

Overview In this role you will advance site environmental compliance and enable license-to-operate through a robust EMS and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll partner with EHS&S leaders to standardize practices, monitor performance, and drive improvements across multiple facilities. You’ll tackle permit management, data reporting, and agency interactions, shaping proactive environmental risk management. This position offers impact at scale within a mission-driven agriscience context. Responsibilities Act as the site focal point for environmental compliance and coordinate EMS implementation across the site Manage environmental permits, including submissions, changes, and renewals to maintain license to operate Provide templates and guidance for compliance with licenses/permits and maintain environmental records Coordinate performance testing of control devices and compile data for state agencies Lead responses to agency inquiries and inspections, including data collection and corrective actions Participate in project reviews and ensure environmental tasks are completed for compliance Leverage the Environmental Center of Expertise for regulatory interpretations and stay current with local/regional requirements Coach and mentor environmental staff and technicians to strengthen capabilities Key requirements Knowledge of regulatory, permit, and company requirements for environmental responsibilities Understanding of Environmental work processes and tools Experience with plant/operations and basic engineering calculations for reporting Excellent communication skills Ability to identify regulatory changes to maintain License to Operate Interface with external governmental organizations Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects under deadlines Minimum 3 years in Environmental Health and Safety, a laboratory, or manufacturing facility Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with ability to learn new systems Strong communication Coaching and mentoring Influencing and facilitation Regulatory compliance knowledge Permitting and license management Environmental management systems familiarity
