Job Description: The Shipping Tow Motor Operator is responsible for the safe and accurate loading, unloading, identification, verification, and shipment of finished goods within the Highway Department. This position locates inventory, verifies product information, performs inventory transactions, scans material using barcode systems, loads customer shipments, and ensures materials are shipped accurately according to customer requirements and company standards. The Shipping Tow Motor Operator serves as the department's shipping and inventory specialist and plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy, shipment quality, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications: Required High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred. Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment. Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret work orders, shipping documentation, and inventory records. Basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to perform accurate inventory transactions. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks. Preferred Previous forklift or tow motor experience. Experience using Sage 100 or similar ERP systems. Experience using handheld barcode scanners. Experience with inventory management systems. Shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing experience. Mechanical aptitude.
Duties and Responsibilities: Safety Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely. Perform required pre-shift equipment inspections. Identify and report unsafe conditions and equipment concerns. Participate in required safety meetings and training. Shipping Operations Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently. Verify products being shipped match shipping requirements. Ensure shipments are accurate and complete. Secure loads according to company standards and transportation requirements. Support timely shipment of customer orders. Assist in maintaining efficient shipping operations. Inventory Management Locate finished goods within inventory storage locations. Verify inventory locations and product identification. Maintain accurate inventory records. Support inventory audits and cycle counts. Identify and report inventory discrepancies. Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy throughout the department. Sage and Scanner Transactions Utilize Sage 100 and related inventory systems as required. Perform barcode scanner transactions accurately. Scan materials into and out of inventory locations. Verify inventory movements are properly recorded. Maintain accurate electronic inventory records. Support traceability requirements through proper documentation. Product Verification and Quality Verify products match customer requirements and shipping documentation. Confirm quantities, bundle counts, tags, and product identification. Inspect finished material for visible damage or shipping concerns. Communicate quality concerns promptly. Support shipment accuracy and customer satisfaction. Documentation Read and interpret shipping documents and work orders. Complete required shipping documentation accurately. Maintain accurate inventory and shipment records. Record inventory transactions and adjustments as required. Communicate inventory and shipping concerns promptly. Equipment Monitoring Perform daily inspections of assigned equipment. Monitor equipment performance and operating conditions. Report equipment concerns and maintenance needs. Maintain cleanliness of assigned equipment. Support preventative maintenance efforts through timely reporting. Production Support Support material movement activities throughout the department. Assist with housekeeping and 3S initiatives. Support production operations when shipping demands permit. Perform general labor duties as assigned. Assist other departments as operational needs require. Communication and Teamwork Communicate effectively with: Highway Group Lead Highway Manager Sales Department Production Personnel Shipping Personnel Drivers and Carriers Communicate shipment concerns, inventory discrepancies, and operational issues promptly. Support cross-training and departmental flexibility. Continuous Improvement Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve shipping accuracy and inventory management. Support implementation of approved improvements.

Physical Demands: The physical requirements described below represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The associate must be able to: Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Frequently enter and exit forklifts and material handling equipment. Frequently bend, twist, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull. Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Operate material handling equipment safely. Maintain visual attention to personnel, equipment, and material movement. Work safely around moving equipment and production operations. Demonstrate competency using Sage 100 and barcode scanning systems. Demonstrate understanding of Highway Department inventory locations and material flow. Demonstrate competency verifying shipments and inventory transactions. Demonstrate understanding of product identification and traceability requirements. Perform assigned duties independently with minimal supervision. STARTING PAY: Typically starts between $19 - 22/hour - commensurate with experience. (OT is paid at 1.5x pay after 40 hours).
