Job Summary: This 10-week paid internship can be in Chicago, IL or Richardson, TX.
Responsibilities:
The Underwriting Intern position is responsible for learning various underwriting principles and procedures including how to evaluate risk for renewals and new business for employer sponsored healthcare. This role will also be responsible for assisting in financial analysis around benefit designs for customers, reporting and collaborating with sales & account management teams on pricing negotiations, and assisting with completion of financial settlements.
Interns are responsible for actively participating in HCSC's formal internship program that leverages your skills, knowledge, and capabilities while providing meaningful experience supporting business objectives and member-focused solutions. Working closely with cross-functional teams in both business and technical areas, the Intern will contribute to project work, analyze information, and support the development of solutions that address organizational needs. The Intern is responsible for learning and applying specific aspects of the organization's processes, programs, and technologies while demonstrating increasing independence and ownership of assigned deliverables.
This role will also need to:
Own components of project work and deliverables with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.
Conduct research, analyze data and information, and develop recommendations that inform real business decisions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Support departmental initiatives that improve business outcomes and the member and client experience.
Develop and deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results, and
complete confidentiality of company business and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and applicable compliance policies.
Qualifications:
- What Do You Need to Be Successful?
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
- Strong analytical skills
- Practical, developed PC skills, especially Excel and WordBasic math competencies
- Work management skills including ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time
- What Are the Requirements You Must Meet?
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree; rising senior with a major in a business-related field. Other majors may be considered.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028 Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.Available for the full duration of the 10-week program.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.
