Our flagship platform, the Bio Assembly Bot (BAB), is deployed by leading pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic research organizations to eliminate manual variability and accelerate translational biology. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Solutions, Inc., headquartered in Louisville, KY.
About the Role:
The Business Development Manager – Life Sciences is responsible for driving revenue growth across new and existing accounts by identifying, qualifying, and closing opportunities for ASLS instrumentation, software, and services. This is a hunter-minded, consultative sales role — you will work directly with Principal Scientists, Platform Leads, and R&D leadership at biotech, pharma, and CRO organizations to understand their biological workflow challenges and position BAB as the solution.
Responsibilities:
Territory Development & Prospecting Build and execute a territory business plan targeting biotech, pharma, CRO, and AI-driven drug discovery accounts with active organoid, iPSC, or 3D biology programs. Proactively identify new customer opportunities through outbound prospecting, conference engagement, publication tracking, and inbound lead follow-up. Qualify accounts against defined criteria including budget, technical fit, timeline, and decision-making structure. Consultative Selling & Deal Execution Lead discovery conversations with scientists and technical decision-makers to understand current workflows, quantify pain points (variability, throughput, labor cost), and build a tailored value case for BAB.Navigate multi-stakeholder deals involving Principal Scientists, Automation/Platform Leads, Lab Operations, and R&D Directors or VPs. Develop and present technically credible proposals and ROI analyses that address customer-specific workflow bottlenecks. Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through close, including demo coordination, proposal development, negotiation, and procurement navigation. Pipeline & CRM Discipline Maintain an accurate, up-to-date sales pipeline and forecast in the CRM at all times. Log customer-facing activity — calls, emails, meetings — with detail sufficient for team handoffs and accurate forecasting. Provide weekly pipeline updates and deal-level insights to sales leadership. Market & Field Engagement Collaborate with marketing on campaign feedback, content needs, and customer-facing messaging. Monitor competitive landscape, customer adoption trends, and emerging workflow needs to inform product and commercial strategy.
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of demonstrated success selling capital equipment, instrumentation, or scientific platforms to life sciences research organizations (biotech, pharma, academic core facilities, or CROs), with a track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals in the $100K–$500K+ range. Bachelor's degree in a life sciences field (cell biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related), or equivalent hands-on technical/lab sales experience. Ability to travel up to 5% within assigned territory for customer visits, demos, presentations, and conference attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or Ph. D. a plus. Hands-on laboratory experience with cell culture, assay development, or biological research workflows; direct experience with organoids, iPSCs, or 3D biology strongly preferred. Familiarity with CRISPR gene editing workflows, high-throughput screening (HTS), or drug discovery assay development. Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); comfort with digital engagement and virtual demo environments. The base salary for this role is $70,000–$90,000, with on-target earnings of $140,000–$180,000 when commission is included.
