Job Description: The overall function of this position is responsible for assisting the Project Engineer and other employees belonging to Unit 236 in the daily activities and responsibilities of the construction office. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and be able to handle unforeseen conditions or issues as they may arise.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.
Job Duties and Other Information: Construction Documentation & Compliance: Prepare and review construction documents, ensuring compliance with DOTD policies, contract requirements, and Federal regulations including EEO, DBE, certified payroll, testing, and certifications. Contractor Payments & Financial Calculations: Reconcile field books and Site Manager quantities, prepare contractor estimates and payments, and perform mathematical calculations to verify fuel, asphalt, and other contract adjustments. Project Records & Change Orders: Process Change Orders from draft through approval, maintain project documentation, coordinate signatures, and ensure all required records are collected and properly filed for project audits and closeout. Payroll & EEO Compliance: Review weekly contractor payrolls, monitor wage compliance, coordinate EEO site interviews, process CUF and CP-1A forms, and manage annual FHWA-1391 reporting requirements. Project Finalization: Assemble and submit Project Finals to DOTD Headquarters, ensuring field books, laboratory reports, final payments, change orders, estimates, approvals, and required signatures are accurate and complete. Office & Administrative Management: Manage office payrolls, SAP entries, FMLA and overtime paperwork, safety inspections and records, equipment and vehicle documentation, supply orders, petty cash, invoices, and general office operations. Communication & Additional Support: Communicate with inspectors, contractors, laboratories, DOTD staff, and the public; manage phone, email, and mail correspondence; and provide emergency/disaster support and other duties as required. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This position may be filled as Probational or Promotional Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
Compensation: Engineering Technician 1 - $14.00 /hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 2 - $16.03 /hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 3 - $18.35 /hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 4 - $21.00 /hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
