Grade: Intern FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive Position: No Supervisor Title: Information Technology Training Coordinator Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and actively pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota. Nature of Work: The position supports technology adoption and implementation projects, with an emphasis on research, process improvement, technology operations, and end-user adoption. This is a part-time position intended for a college student and may be utilized as an internship opportunity.

Duties / Responsibilities Primary Essential Work Functions:
  • Supports the evaluation, implementation, operationalization, and adoption of artificial intelligence and emerging technology solutions, including research, testing, documentation, process development, and end-user support.
  • Assists with evaluating, developing, documenting, and supporting technology-enabled workflows and process improvements using organizational productivity, collaboration, automation, and business application tools.
  • Collaborates with IT staff and other departments to support technology adoption and implementation projects.
  • Supports specific initiatives, including software research and implementation, AI adoption and integration, and cybersecurity awareness and practices.
  • Conducts research-based support and data analysis to inform project decisions and assess system performance.
  • Researches software tools and AI solutions, documenting findings and communicating effectiveness for evaluation.
  • Creates basic reports or visualizations, documents data flows, and maintains process documentation.
  • Assists with project tasks, tracking milestones, and documenting next steps and outcomes to ensure progress and follow-through.
  • Assists with technical documentation, process support, and development of training materials for technology projects.
  • Provides hands-on technology support, including troubleshooting and end-user assistance.
  • Supports data entry, records maintenance, and other departmental administrative tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by IT Department staff.

  • Must successfully complete a background examination.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, and be able to drive, in the state of Minnesota.
  • Upon completion of related degree, employment will end six (6) months from degree graduation date.
  • Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the not public data must be properly stored according to city policy and the Minnesota Statutes.
Hours of Work: Regular working hours for this position are generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with work outside of regular hours as necessary, including evenings and weekends. This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. The specific work schedule will be established based on departmental needs and the student's availability. This is a one-year position currently funded through the 2027 calendar year. Continuation of the position into 2028 and beyond is subject to future budget approval.

Retirement: PERA (Public Employees Retirement Association)
Must participate as directed by Minnesota Statutes. Contribution rates vary depending on position. May obtain refund of employee contribution on termination of service. Employee Sick & Safe Time (ESST) The City of Mankato provides paid time off from work to eligible part-time employees following the Earned Sick and Safe Time accrual policies for all employees. All employees begin accruing hours on the first day of work. This accrual earning process meets the requirements of Earned Sick and Safe Time leave in accordance with Minn. Stat. 181.9445-181.9448. Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave is a benefit for employees to be able to have paid time off (with partial wage replacement) and job protection for employees who need to take leave for certain medical or family-care reasons. This is a State required benefit for all employers in the State of Minnesota. Premium contributions for this benefit will be at a shared cost to the City and the employee. Premium rates for 2026 are .78% of gross earnings. This will be split 50/50. Employees will see a .39% of gross wages after tax deduction.
