Role Description: The Senior Control System Engineer contract role is responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing control systems for industrial and power generation applications. Day-to-day work includes developing process control strategies, creating system architectures and control logic, programming PLCs and HMIs, and integrating systems with plant equipment and electrical infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, perform system modeling, support commissioning and startup activities, and provide troubleshooting and optimization for existing installations. This is a hybrid role based in the Greater Chicago Area, with regular on-site work at customer or company locations and some work-from-home flexibility. The position also involves preparing technical documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting project timelines and budgets.
Qualifications: Strong skills in Process Control and Control Systems Design, including development of control strategies, system architectures, and logic programming. Demonstrated expertise in Electrical Engineering and Systems Engineering for industrial and power-related applications, including integration of instrumentation, switchgear, and generation systems. Advanced troubleshooting abilities for complex automation and control systems, including diagnosing hardware, software, and network issues in live environments. Proficiency with PLC and HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider or similar) and related configuration tools. Experience with power plant or utility-scale control systems, advanced metering infrastructure, or load management solutions is highly beneficial. Ability to interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control narratives, and to produce clear technical documentation and test procedures. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control/Automation Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work safely on industrial sites and function in a hybrid (Greater Chicago Area + partial remote) arrangement.
