About the Company:
A nationally recognized, vertically integrated real estate developer and builder is expanding its Chicago construction team. With more than 50 years of experience, the company has developed a diverse portfolio spanning multifamily, high-rise residential, office, retail, industrial, and mixed-use developments throughout North America. The company maintains significant in-house construction capabilities, giving its teams direct involvement throughout the development and construction process. This approach allows the organization to maintain strong control over quality, schedule, cost, and project execution. About the Project This Superintendent will join the team supporting a major 50-story, approximately 1.1-million-square-foot high-rise property in Chicago's Loop. The project represents a significant opportunity to work on a high-profile urban asset in one of Chicago's most prominent redevelopment corridors, with a complex scope requiring strong coordination between field operations, design teams, ownership, consultants, and trade partners.
The Role:
The Assistant Superintendent plays a vital role in supporting the Lead Site Superintendent in the execution, monitoring, and daily operations of large-scale commercial, high-rise, or residential construction projects. This role acts as a bridge between field crews, sub-trades, and the project management team to ensure projects align with company quality standards, remain on schedule, and adhere to strict safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Supervision: Manage a segment or specific area of a large project under the guidance of the Lead Superintendent. Assist in directing daily site activities of subcontractors, vendors, and laborers. Schedule & Milestones: Support the preparation and maintenance of look-ahead schedules. Help forecast daily, weekly, and monthly targets to keep work moving efficiently. Quality Control: Perform regular site walk-throughs to verify that workmanship and materials strictly comply with contract documents, approved drawings, and specifications. Document deficiencies and manage completion of punch lists. Safety Enforcement: Facilitate and enforce company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and SWPPP documentation on-site. Participate in routine hazard assessments and risk mitigation. Materials & Logistics: Monitor and track site deliveries, verify material quantities, and manage work orders or site logistics plans. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain complete, accurate working documents. Track trade manpower, log design changes, and submit clear daily production reports. Stakeholder Coordination: Attend subcontractor coordination meetings and assist with jurisdictional city inspections. Maintain collaborative relationships with field teams and local community partners.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in construction/engineering-related field OR 3+ years of equivalent work experience. Ability to read, interpret, and identify constructability issues within complex blueprints, structural plans, and submittals. OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification is preferred. Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management abilities. Must exhibit a desire to learn and step into a Lead Superintendent role in the future.
