Senior Tax Manager - Public Accounting Step into a high-impact leadership role at an established Sacramento-based CPA and advisory firm where you will direct complex tax engagements, drive strategic planning initiatives, and mentor a dedicated team of tax professionals.
What you'll do:
- Own the end-to-end review and execution of complex federal, state, and multi-state tax returns across diverse entity types, ensuring full technical accuracy and compliance
- Design and execute proactive, high-level tax planning strategies that minimize tax liabilities and align with client business objectives
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing tax team, providing real-time technical guidance, setting priorities, and evaluating work products
- Monitor federal and state tax legislative updates, translating complex regulatory changes into clear, actionable guidance for clients and firm leadership
- Manage tax authority audits and controversies, serving as the primary liaison and technical expert during examinations and dispute resolution
- Analyze financial data to uncover sophisticated tax-saving opportunities and deliver executive-level advisory recommendations
- Partner with firm leadership on practice development, client relationship management, and internal operational improvements
- What you need 8+ years of progressive tax experience within a public accounting practice
- Active CPA license
- Expert technical command of federal, state, and multi-state corporate and pass-through tax compliance and reporting
- Proven track record managing concurrent client portfolios, engagement budgets, and project deadlines
- Strong leadership capabilities with demonstrated experience supervising and developing tax professionals
Nice to have:
- Master's in Taxation (MST) or specialized tax credentials
- Established background in specialized industries such as construction, real estate, or manufacturing
- Proven success supporting business development and client relationship expansion
Pay & benefits
Base salary: $150,000-$180,000 per year, commensurate with experience
