Reports to: Assigned Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Scale Dept. /School: Assigned Campus Calendar Days: 187 / ADSYContract: Probationary/Term Revised: 2.20.2025 Primary Purpose The Resource Teacher supports special education students by providing tailored learning experiences, developing or adapting curricula, and creating instructional materials to foster their overall growth. This role may involve working in a self-contained, team-based, departmental, or itinerant capacity, as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs Effective communication skills Experience One-year student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Planning and Delivery 1. Develop and implement lesson plans that meet district curriculum requirements, include accommodations for individual student needs, and provide written evidence of preparation 2. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and technology to address students' learning styles and needs, following Texas Education Agency guidelines and board policies 3. Assess student learning styles, plan instruction accordingly, and collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process 4. Present subject matter effectively, modify curricula as needed, and collaborate with staff to implement IEPs for each student Student Growth and Development 5. Conduct ongoing assessments to track student progress and adjust instruction as needed 6. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs, ensuring written evidence of preparation Classroom Management and Organization 7. Support student participation in extracurricular activities and consult with resources to meet educational, social, and personal needs 8. Create a positive classroom environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth 9. Manage student behavior, including crisis intervention and physical restraint as necessary, following IEPs 10. Ensure student and facility safety, oversee the work of aides/volunteers, and collaborate on behavior management strategies Communication 11. Maintain regular communication with parents, students, teachers, and administrators through conferences and meetings 12. Foster positive, professional relationships and demonstrate loyalty and professionalism in interactions Professional Growth and Development 13. Participate in faculty meetings and staff development activities, and serve on committees to improve job-related skills and support professional growth
Other Duties: 14. Stay informed and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers 15. Maintain and file all required physical and computerized reports and records Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of instructional aides Evaluation The evaluation of the Resource Teacher is a responsibility resting with the Principal. An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of each school year.
Work Environment: Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist nonambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours Environment: Exposure to biological hazards Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
