Firefighter / EMT (Academy-Track Recruitment) - City of Groton Fire Department Firefighter / EMT (Academy-Track Recruitment) - City of Groton Fire Department Earn while you learn—no prior firefighting or EMT experience required! The City of Groton Fire Department is seeking entry-level Firefighters for a unique recruitment track where selected candidates are full-time, paid employees from day one while attending the Connecticut Fire Academy and completing required emergency medical coursework. Upon successful completion of onboarding and training, Firefighters work under the general supervision of a Battalion Chief to perform firefighting combat, containment, emergency medical aid, apparatus and station maintenance, and public safety outreach. Minimum qualifications to apply include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license at time of application, and the ability to perform strenuous physical activities under challenging conditions. Candidates must be able to pass a background check, medical exam, and psychological evaluation, and as a condition of employment.
