Job Description: LTL Dock & Inventory Worker The LTL Dock & Inventory Worker is responsible for safely and efficiently supporting both dock operations and warehouse inventory operations within a fast-paced Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) environment. This position will split responsibilities between loading/unloading freight and maintaining accurate warehouse inventory. The ideal candidate will have previous LTL dock experience, warehouse inventory management experience, and hands-on experience working with a Warehouse Management System (WMS).Yard jockey/hostler experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience safely moving, spotting, and positioning trailers within a warehouse yard will be given strong consideration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Dock Operations Load and unload LTL trailers using forklifts and pallet jacks. Move and stage freight in designated destination bays based on routing instructions. Verify freight using PRO numbers, BOLs, pallet counts, destination codes, and shipping documentation. Ensure the correct freight is loaded onto the correct trailer and in the proper stop sequence. Complete required load verification paperwork accurately. Inspect freight for visible damage, shortages, overages, or incorrect labeling and immediately report discrepancies. Properly position freight inside trailers to maximize space while preventing damage during transit. Determine when pallets can safely be stacked and follow all stacking requirements. Secure freight when required to prevent shifting or damage. Maintain accurate pallet counts when loading and unloading shipments. Communicate discrepancies or routing issues with the Dock Supervisor, Dispatch Clerk, or management before loading questionable freight. Assist with receiving, cross-docking, staging, and outbound operations as needed. Inventory & Warehouse Operations Receive, locate, stage, transfer, and maintain warehouse inventory using the company’s Warehouse Management System (WMS).Accurately enter and update inventory movements within the WMS.Assign and verify warehouse locations for incoming freight. Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure physical freight matches WMS records. Perform inventory cycle counts and assist with inventory audits. Research and report inventory discrepancies, missing freight, incorrect locations, and quantity differences. Verify PRO numbers, pallet counts, labels, and shipment information before placing freight into inventory. Pull and stage inventory for outbound shipments based on shipping documentation and routing requirements. Ensure freight is stored in the correct rack, bay, or designated warehouse location. Maintain organized inventory locations and immediately report misplaced or unidentified freight. Work closely with warehouse management, dispatch, and dock personnel to resolve inventory and shipment discrepancies. Yard /
Hostler Responsibilities: Yard jockey/hostler experience is strongly preferred for this position. Candidates with this experience may also be responsible for: Safely moving and positioning trailers throughout the warehouse yard. Spotting trailers at designated dock doors. Moving empty and loaded trailers as required by warehouse operations. Maintaining proper trailer organization and placement within the yard. Communicating with dock management and dispatch regarding trailer locations and availability. Performing basic trailer inspections before moving equipment. Following all company yard safety procedures while operating hostler equipment.
General Responsibilities: Perform daily forklift/equipment inspections before operation. Maintain a clean and organized dock, warehouse, staging areas, inventory locations, and destination bays. Follow all company safety procedures, including required PPE and forklift safety rules. Immediately report damaged freight, equipment damage, accidents, injuries, and other safety concerns. Perform additional warehouse, inventory, dock, and yard duties as required.
Qualifications: Previous LTL dock experience required. Previous warehouse inventory management experience required. Previous experience using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) required. Forklift experience required. Yard jockey/hostler experience strongly preferred. Experience moving and spotting 53-foot trailers is highly preferred. Ability to accurately receive, locate, transfer, pull, and maintain inventory within a WMS.Ability to perform cycle counts and identify inventory discrepancies. Ability to read and understand BOLs, manifests, PRO numbers, destination codes, and shipping documentation. Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment. Ability to follow loading sequences and verbal/written instructions. Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned shift. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be willing and able to work between dock, inventory, warehouse, and yard operations based on daily operational needs.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work on the dock or warehouse floor for extended periods. Ability to safely lift and move freight as required. Ability to work around forklifts, trucks, trailers, hostlers, and other warehouse equipment. Ability to work in warehouse and yard conditions that may include heat, cold, noise, and changing weather conditions.\nCompany
