Position Summary:
The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) leads the enterprise EHS strategy, governance, and performance across Mount Franklin Foods’ multi-site operations in the U.S. and Mexico. This role ensures regulatory compliance, standardizes systems, and embeds safety as a core value across manufacturing, distribution, and support functions. Leads Senior EHS Managers and site EHS teams and serves as the executive subject matter expert for EHS.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Governance• Set and lead the enterprise EHS strategy and annual priorities aligned to business goals. • Provide executive oversight, governance, and reporting across sites and regions. • Advise executive and site leaders on risk, compliance, and safety culture. Regulatory & Environmental Compliance• Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and Mexico EHS laws and standards (OSHA/EPA and local requirements). • Lead permitting, reporting, audits, and agency interactions; oversee corrective actions. • Serve as escalation point for complex compliance issues and enforcement actions. Operational Risk Management• Lead enterprise risk assessments and prevention programs to reduce incidents and exposures. • Oversee serious incident investigations and ensure effective corrective/preventive actions. • Manage EHS metrics and trend reporting to drive performance. Leadership of the EHS Organization• Lead, coach, and develop Senior EHS Managers, EHS Managers, and site EHS teams. • Set team structure, capability expectations, and succession plans. • Standardize core EHS processes while addressing site-specific risk. Culture, Training & Engagement• Build an engagement-based safety culture through visible leadership and consistent accountability.• Ensure effective EHS training for leaders and employees; partner with HR on onboarding and leadership development. Continuous Improvement & Sustainability• Drive continuous improvement in ergonomics, environmental impact, and waste reduction. • Lead internal/external audits and sustainability/environmental stewardship initiatives. Cross-Functional Partnership• Partner with Operations, HR, Security, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to embed EHS into business processes. • Support start-ups/expansions and organizational change; communicate risk, compliance status, and priorities.
Qualifications:
Required• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering, or related field. • 10+ years EHS leadership experience in manufacturing (food/CPG preferred), including multi-site responsibility. • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental regulations. US / Mexico Operations – Required• Experience leading EHS programs across U.S. and Mexico operations; able to align standards while managing local requirements. • Bilingual English/Spanish communication and cultural agility to influence leaders across geographies. Preferred• CSP, CIH, or similar certification. • Experience improving EHS maturity in legacy sites and closing compliance/performance gaps. • Strong executive presence; proven change management.
