The Senior Sales Engineer is a highly technical, customer-facing role responsible for managing and growing business throughout the European market. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who also possesses strong sales, account management, and business development capabilities. The Senior Sales Engineer will work directly with customers to understand application requirements, design inductors and transformers, recommend customized technical solutions, and support opportunities through the sales process. The role will manage existing direct and distributor relationships while also developing new business, with approximately 25% of the focus dedicated to new business development.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and grow direct customer and distributor relationships throughout Europe, with a particular focus on markets such as Germany, Italy, and Spain. Serve as the primary sales and technical contact for assigned European accounts and opportunities. Work directly with customers to understand electrical, engineering, and application requirements and translate those needs into viable technical solutions. Design inductors and transformers based on customer specifications and application requirements. Provide application design support for customer inquiries, escalating highly complex technical requirements to the Applications Engineering team when appropriate. Maintain and expand relationships with existing customers while identifying new business and market opportunities. Develop sales strategies and business plans designed to increase revenue, market penetration, and market share. Support both direct sales activities and distributor sales channels. Prepare and deliver technical presentations, product recommendations, proposals, and sales presentations to customers and distributor partners. Coordinate quotes, product samples, pricing discussions, negotiations, and other customer requirements. Partner closely with Engineering, Applications Engineering, Quality, Marketing, and Production teams to ensure customer requirements are understood and successfully delivered. Develop strong relationships with large strategic customers, including organizations within the automotive and other technical manufacturing markets. Participate in customer meetings, trade shows, industry conferences, and other business development activities. Conduct most customer interactions virtually while maintaining a regular travel schedule throughout Europe. Complete travel arrangements and expense reporting independently using the organization's travel and expense management system. Participate in technical and product training with internal teams as required.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline required; Master’s degree preferred. Strong engineering background with demonstrated experience designing inductors and transformers. Knowledge of magnetic components, transformers, inductors, magnetic cores, and related electronic components. Strong preference for candidates whose background is more heavily weighted toward engineering and technical solution design, combined with customer-facing sales experience. Experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering, account management, or business development within an engineering-driven environment. Ability to understand detailed customer specifications and independently develop appropriate technical solutions. Experience supporting direct accounts as well as distributor/channel relationships. Strong customer relationship management, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills. Ability to maintain and grow established accounts while generating new business opportunities. Experience supporting large automotive, industrial, electronics, or similar technical customers is highly desirable. European business development experience is beneficial but not required. German, Italian, and/or Spanish language skills are a plus. Ability to work primarily within Eastern Time Zone business hours; Central Time Zone candidates may also be considered. Ability to travel up to approximately 40% domestically and internationally, typically including about one week per month in Europe, with travel varying based on customer needs, seasonal schedules, and holidays. Ability to travel periodically for training and other company meetings. Must be located within reasonable access to a major airport offering convenient international travel to Europe. Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) due to ITAR-related requirements.
