The Technician performs metal repair, panel replacement, structural straightening, and refinish preparation in accordance with OEM specifications and shop quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze damage, review repair orders and estimates, and plan the repair procedure. Repair or replace damaged body panels, frames, and structural components using welding, sectioning, and bonding techniques. Perform structural and unibody straightening using frame machines and measuring systems to restore factory dimensions. Remove dents, dings, and imperfections through metal finishing, filling, and sanding. Weld, cut, and fabricate panels as required, following OEM and I-CAR procedures. Prepare repaired surfaces for refinishing, including grinding, priming, and block sanding. Ensure repaired vehicles meet safety, structural, and quality standards before refinish or delivery. Identify supplemental damage and communicate additional repair needs to the estimator. Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment; follow all safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in collision repair preferred. 2+ years of hands-on collision/body repair experience. I-CAR and/or ASE certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Proficiency with frame machines, measuring systems, welders, and body shop tools and equipment. Knowledge of OEM repair procedures, structural repair, and modern vehicle materials (steel, aluminum, composites). Ability to read and interpret repair orders, estimates, and technical specifications. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding work. Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and able to meet production deadlines.
