This role is focused on fact-checking, verification, plausibility assessment, and desk research across a range of research projects. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and naturally inclined to question information that appears incomplete, inconsistent, or implausible.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct structured desk research using company websites, annual reports, regulatory filings, government databases, public records, reputable media sources, and other reliable sources
- Perform plausibility checks to identify information, figures, or classifications that may be inaccurate or inconsistent
- Cross-reference multiple sources to validate research findings
- Investigate discrepancies and determine the most reliable or current information available
- Verify company details such as headquarters, ownership, employee counts, revenue, industry classification, and other research criteria
- Review research data for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and logical errors
- Validate whether companies or organizations meet defined eligibility and methodology criteria
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduate, or early-career professional
- Strong research and fact-checking skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong critical-thinking and analytical ability
- Comfortable conducting extensive online research
- Ability to evaluate the credibility and reliability of different sources
- Willingness to challenge information rather than accept it at face value
- Comfortable working with Excel or Google SheetsStrong written communication and ability to clearly document findings
- Able to follow established research methodologies while exercising independent judgment
- Based in the New York City area
Experience in research, journalism, history, or a related field is helpful but not required.
Prior experience with fact-checking, desk research, academic research, public records, regulatory filings, data validation, or research quality control is a plus.
This is a temporary opportunity supporting several active research projects and is particularly well suited to students or recent graduates interested in gaining hands-on experience in professional research and fact-checking.
