Position Description:
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTETemporary, One Year, Non-tenured (11 Months, August – June) as Counselor (General/Student Athletics) in the Division of Counselingand Matriculation located at San Jose City College.
Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities. Someworkdays may be assigned outside the eleven-month academiccalendar.
This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federationof Teachers, AFT 6157.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subjectmatter clearly and effectively.
Adapt methodologies for students with special needs anddifferent learning styles.
Demonstrate commitment to professional development, includingbut not limited to activities such as: participation inprofessional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership inprofessional organizations, research projects, publishing academicwork, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff ofdiverse racial, ethnic, academic and socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect fordifferences and the dignity of others.
Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course andcurriculum development and review, student learning outcomes andassessment, program review, committees, research and specialprojects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
Attend and participate in department, division and collegemeetings and keep posted office hours.
Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
Foster a professional work and learning environment.
Attend and participate in meetings as needed with studentathletics personnel.
Stay current on requirements for maintaining eligibility forathletic competition, and serve as an expert on this subject for other counselingfaculty.
Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling
OR
*The Equivalent (Note: A Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1.)
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and ability to support student athletes to achieve student success including transfer and maintaining athletic eligibility to compete in their sport through meeting academic success standards.
Knowledge of academic standards required to maintain academic eligibility to compete in community college level athletics and successfully transfer into a university level athletic program.
Bilingual ability – English and Spanish or Vietnamese.

Salary Range:
$110,451 to $151,619 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2026- 2027); Maximum Salary Potential $196,722.

Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified educationand experience.
