Supports printing press operations by preparing equipment for production runs, monitoring paper flow, maintaining material inventory, and assisting press operators with setup, maintenance, and quality standards. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality print production.
Job Duties:
Prepare printing presses for production runs by reviewing job specifications. Set up and supply paper rolls for press operation. Inspect fountain solutions, ink systems, paper rolls, and press components. Monitor paper flow during production and splice new rolls as needed. Maintain paper inventory and record usage and spoilage. Assist press operators with press setup and make-ready activities. Support preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of press equipment. Help maintenance teams perform repairs when needed. Adjust ink, solvent, and varnish levels to maintain print quality. Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements. Complete production documentation and quality-related records. Support special projects and other production-related tasks as assigned.
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Technical training in metal fabrication, machining, manufacturing, or blueprint reading is beneficial. Experience Requirements Ability to safely operate press brake equipment and related fabrication machinery. Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and production specifications. Experience using measuring instruments such as calipers, tape measures, angle gauges, or micrometers. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality. Commitment to workplace safety, dependable attendance, and quality workmanship. Previous printing environment experience preferred. Manufacturing or production experience preferred. Ability to work in a team environment. Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools. Strong attention to detail and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous press brake, fabrication, sheet metal, manufacturing, or machine operation experience is preferred. Experience setting up tooling, making machine adjustments, or interpreting engineering drawings is beneficial. Knowledge of precision measurement, quality inspection, Lean manufacturing, or preventative maintenance is considered an asset. Individuals who demonstrate mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork are well positioned for success as a Press Assistant. Ability to stand for 12-hour shifts. Comfortable working around industrial printing equipment. Ability to follow safety procedures. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred. Ability to work rotating schedules. Physical Capabilities Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive manufacturing tasks throughout the shift. Ability to lift and handle sheet metal, materials, or finished parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to safely load materials, operate machinery, and inspect finished products. Ability to safely work around industrial equipment while following established manufacturing safety procedures. Employees will regularly handle paper rolls, materials, and production supplies. Frequent lifting, moving, loading, and unloading of materials is required.
