Environmental Specialist

Overview As Environmental Specialist, you will design and run site environmental programs to reduce the facility’s environmental footprint. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across air, wastewater, and waste streams. You will lead regulatory reporting, stay ahead of evolving rules, and support global sustainability initiatives. The role focuses on continuous improvement, data-driven decisions, and effective stakeholder engagement to advance our sustainable manufacturing vision. Responsibilities Develop and execute site environmental programs and systems to reduce environmental impact Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements across paper grades Prepare, review, and submit environmental regulatory reports (e.g., NPDES DMR, Stormwater DMR, SARA Title III, TRI)Engage with regulators on incidents or requests and stay updated on regulations Provide environmental support for projects and lead audits, risk assessments, and training Collaborate with corporate environmental and sustainability groups on global initiatives Oversee day-to-day environmental system performance and data collection/analysis Coordinate with community, environmental agencies, and other stakeholders Review and approve capital projects and new chemical processes as needed Performs other duties as assigned by management Key requirements 2-5 years of environmental regulatory experience (preferred)Bachelor’s degree in environmental science (required)Experience with regulatory agencies (preferred)Industrial experience (preferred)Experience with air and wastewater permitting (preferred)Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to interact with production staff, salaried employees, and regulatory personnel Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Experience with carbon reduction, water reduction, and zero-waste to landfill strategies (desired)Willingness to work in an environment requiring PPE and occasional plant walkthroughsverbal and written communicationattention to detailmethodical approachair permittingwastewater permittingenvironmental regulatory reporting
