Mechanical Engineer – Data Center Development
Location: Remote - Nationwide Our client is an entrepreneurial infrastructure advisory organization supporting the next generation of large-scale data center development. With demand accelerating and major projects moving from site evaluation toward execution, the team is looking for a versatile Mechanical Engineer who wants to influence critical development decisions well before detailed engineering begins. This is an opportunity to step beyond a traditional design role, gain meaningful exposure to clients and commercial decisions, and help shape the mechanical strategy behind complex, high-growth data center programs across the country. This Role Offers: Competitive compensation aligned with experience and technical capability. Exposure to significant data center developments during the earliest and most influential stages of the project lifecycle. Opportunity to broaden your career beyond detailed engineering into technical advisory, development strategy, and commercial decision-making. A strong career path for an engineer who wants greater responsibility and client exposure than a traditional large engineering organization may provide. Focus: Shape mechanical strategies for data center campuses during site feasibility, evaluation, and early development. Assess cooling systems, water requirements, heat rejection, and other mechanical factors affecting project viability. Identify mechanical risks and constraints early enough to influence site planning, permitting, investment, and development decisions. Evaluate mechanical considerations related to on-site power generation, fuel infrastructure, and integrated energy solutions. Provide engineering judgment during conceptual and early-stage design without being limited to detailed production work. Collaborate with electrical, civil, development, and external engineering teams to create coordinated infrastructure strategies. Develop technical requirements and provide mechanical input for EPC procurement, partner evaluation, and project delivery planning. Serve as a trusted technical advisor, translating complex mechanical considerations into clear recommendations for clients and project stakeholders. Skill Set: Mechanical engineering experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, or similarly complex infrastructure. Broad, well-rounded understanding of the mechanical ecosystem of data center development rather than narrow specialization in a single technology. Working knowledge of data center cooling, water utilization, heat rejection, and other campus-scale mechanical systems. Experience with feasibility, conceptual engineering, site diligence, early-stage design, or front-end project development. Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to evaluate mechanical systems from both technical and development perspectives. Technically credible communicator who can clearly explain engineering risks, alternatives, and recommendations to clients and multidisciplinary teams. Entrepreneurial, self-directed approach with an interest in greater project ownership, client exposure, and the commercial side of engineering. Exposure to on-site generation, natural gas infrastructure, CFD analysis, EPC procurement, owner's engineering, or professional licensure is beneficial but not required.
