Nutrition Services Generalist The Nutrition Services Generalist is a district-level support position within the Nutrition Services Department at Dayton Public Schools. This role provides operational, administrative, and programmatic support to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of school nutrition services across all sites. The Generalist works closely with the Director, coordinators, and site leadership to support daily operations, staffing coordination, payroll functions, compliance documentation, training support, and district-wide initiatives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring continuity of service, operational consistency, and timely execution of departmental priorities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Works closely with Nutrition Services leadership to prioritize daily and long-term operational needs and assist with department-wide projects Assists with staffing coordination, including tracking call-offs, coordinating substitute placement, communicating call-off and attendance occurrences to coordinators, and ensuring coverage for school meal service operations Provides on-site or district-wide operational support by assisting with coverage in school cafeterias as needed Assists with payroll-related functions, including data entry, verification of time records, attendance tracking, and reporting support Enters, tracks, and manages FMX work orders related to equipment, maintenance, and facility issues Submits and monitors purchase requisitions and purchase orders, supply requests, monitors PO balances, and service orders in coordination with leadership Supports USDA program compliance activities, including assistance with CRRS documentation, audits, and administrative review preparation Assists with menu-related tasks, including data entry, production record support, and coordination with menu planning staff Supports implementation and monitoring of the USDA Snack Program and other assigned child nutrition programs Assists with training efforts, including onboarding support, staff training coordination, and operational demonstrations as directed Provides support for summer nutrition programs, including planning assistance, staffing coordination, and field support Assists with data collection, reporting, spreadsheets, and documentation needed for program compliance and operational tracking Works collaboratively with coordinators, managers, and directors to support district-wide initiatives and special projects as assigned by the director. Maintains accurate records and ensures timely completion of assigned administrative tasks Communicates effectively with site staff and leadership regarding operational needs, concerns, and updates Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Must be authorized to work in the United pass Federal and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation background check in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code Section 3301-83-06.Knowledge & Experience Associates degree or higher in nutrition related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in school food service or institutional food service operations, including supervisory experience at a Coordinator/supervisor level or equivalent, with responsibility for directing staff, coordinating daily operations, and supporting multi-site or district-level functions Working knowledge of school nutrition program operations, USDA child nutrition programs, and cafeteria service models Experience supporting multi-site operations preferred Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, service-driven environment Physical Attributes/Demands Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 40 pounds Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach, and use hands and arms May require bending, stooping, kneeling, and working in kitchen and refrigerated environments
Work Environment: Work is performed in both office and cafeteria settings Frequent travel between school sites is required Work may be subject to frequent interruptions and changing priorities Some assignments require completion within strict timelines Summer program assignments are required. This position may require work outside of regularly scheduled hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends, as operational needs dictate.
