Description:
The main objective is to lead and oversee timely PD and production delivery for domestic (made in NYC)and Italian factories, with accountability for execution from production handoff through final delivery. This roleowns factory communication, costing, production approvals, WIP, quality, delivery, and issue resolutionfor domestic & Italian apparel. The PD/Production Manager partners cross-functionally with Design, Sales, Logistics and Management and provides production support for R13 orders from factories worldwide, including PO generation, trim/ fabric orders and related production administration.
Responsibilities
Fabric and Trims:
Oversee and confirm fabric and trims OC for bulk production for domestic and Italian styles.
Manage fabric and trim delivery and any changes to factories, maintain delivery with mills and work with Logistics to ensure timely delivery.
Proactively identify and resolve fabric and trim shortages, delivery risks, substitutions, and other issues that may impact production timing or quality.
Costing:
Lead partnership with Design to work through domestic & Italian pricing challenges and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.
Oversee the recording and submission for payment of all invoices referring to fabrics/trims/garment manufacturing.
Troubleshoot and resolve costing or trim issues that may arise during the PD/production cycle.
Own final cost review against estimated costs in ERP, analyze variances, communicate findings, and drive corrective action as needed.
Ensure each product’s costs are accurately entered into the cost sheet (RLM and NetSuite) to support accurate unit costing and pricing.
Sourcing and Factory Management:
- Own and maintain relationships with domestic & Italian factories and ensure the sourcing is adequate to support business needs.
- Vet, evaluate, and onboard new domestic and Italian vendors as needed.
- Manage domestic & Italian factory allocations and recommend changes from sampling to production based on capacity, capability, quality, cost, and delivery needs.
- Monitor factory performance, capacity, quality, and delivery execution and address performance issues proactively.
- Ensure Factory information is properly applied on order in ERP.Domestic & Italian Production
- Own the production approval process for domestic & Italian factories, including review of SMS, patterns, BOM, PPS order, fit and approval process, and timing by seasonal deadlines.
- Establish and maintain production calendars, milestones, and critical path timing to ensure development, pre-production, and production deadlines are achieved.
- Lead the SMS and PPS sample process with factories by the necessary approval times and attend fittings to understand, communicate, and drive approvals and adjustments.
- Work with Design team to identify label requirements and manage delivery of labels to factories.
- Gather unit orders from Sales for both seasonal and reorder inventory and oversee Purchase Order preparation, accuracy, and factory assignment.
- Issue and manage PO’s to domestic factories and confirm and maintain production deliveries meeting departmental goals.
- Own the timely delivery of domestic (made in NY) & Italian production and manage communication and quality throughout the production process, ensuring each step of the cycle (fabric delivery, PPS approval, cutting, grading) stays on track.
- Conduct routine factory visits, troubleshooting, and production follow-up to ensure execution remains on schedule and issues are resolved quickly.
- Maintain and own the domestic & Italian production WIP, ensuring information is accurate, current, and actionable.
- Update and communicate expected delivery of production items by style each week to Logistics, Sales & Management.
- Manage late WIP issues by communicating the reason for delay, business impact, and proposed solution and recovery plan.
- Facilitate and communicate packing and shipping from factories and monitor delivery through final receipt.
Cross-Functional and Team Leadership:
Lead production communication across Design, Sales, Logistics, Finance, and Management to ensure priorities, risks, and timing are clearly understood.
Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and production guidance to Production Associates and Assistants as applicable.
Partner with international production teams and provide in-office support, including trim, shipping samples, factory communication, and production follow-up as needed.
Provide accurate production status updates, analysis, and escalation of issues to department leadership and key stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement in production processes, communication, WIP management, and factory execution.
Qualifications:
Effective communication skills to manage daily exchanges with factories and cross-functional partners in several countries.
Must communicate effectively with department heads to convey information, develop action plans, and drive timely resolution of production issues.
A minimum of 5 years of work experience in Domestic Apparel Production. Not inclusive on internships.
Demonstrated experience managing domestic factory relationships, production calendars, costing, WIP, approvals, quality, and on-time delivery.
Strong knowledge of garment development, production processes, factory capabilities, and production follow-up.
Must be well versed with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlook-ups and formulas); RLM and NetSuite experience preferred; Backbone experience is a BIG plus.
Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Detail oriented, resourceful, collaborative, decisive, and accountable in reviewing data and driving execution.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
The expected starting pay range for this position is $90,000 - $95,000. Applicable pay ranges may differacross markets.
