Relay and Industrial Control ManufacturingEngineering ServicesInstruments and Related Products Manufacturing for Measuring, Displaying, and Controlling Industrial Process VariablesThe Opportunity:
We’re partnered with a long-established industrial equipment manufacturer in the Dayton area that is looking to add an Electrical Controls Engineer to its growing engineering team. The company designs and manufactures highly customized industrial furnace systems used primarily in aluminum processing, with a strong presence across the automotive and broader manufacturing markets. Rather than producing standardized equipment, nearly every system is engineered around the specific application and customer. The business is currently experiencing significant growth, with a strong existing project backlog as well as additional projects expected to move forward over the coming year. They are looking for an engineer who can take ownership across both the electrical design and controls programming sides of these projects. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to follow equipment from initial engineering and design through programming, internal testing, startup, and final implementation.
What You’ll Be Doing:
-Develop electrical schematics, control panel/enclosure layouts, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD.-Design electrical control systems for custom industrial equipment.-Develop and program PLC and HMI applications, including programming from scratch.-Test, troubleshoot, and debug electrical and PLC systems.-Work primarily with Allen-Bradley controls; Siemens experience is a strong plus as customer demand for the platform continues to grow.-Select electrical components and develop parts/BOM documentation from engineering drawings.-Work with 240/480V single- and three-phase power as well as AC/DC control circuits.-Collaborate with engineering, project, and manufacturing teams throughout the equipment build.-Participate in internal system testing prior to shipment.-Provide technical support during equipment startup and commissioning when needed.-Troubleshoot customer equipment and controls issues as they arise. What They’re Looking For-3+ years of electrical controls, automation, or related engineering experience preferred.-Hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.-Ability to develop or work with PLC programs from scratch.-Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs strongly preferred.-Siemens PLC experience is a plus.-Experience creating or modifying electrical schematics in AutoCAD or a comparable electrical design package.-Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 240/480V power and AC/DC controls.-Ability to troubleshoot controls and electrical systems in a hands-on equipment environment.-Experience with FANUC robotics, RoboGuide, DCS, machine safety, or risk assessments is helpful but not required.-Combustion or industrial furnace experience is a plus, but not required.-An Electrical Engineering or related degree is preferred, but equivalent hands-on industry experience will be considered. TravelTravel is project-dependent and primarily associated with equipment startup, commissioning, or troubleshooting at customer facilities. Systems are designed and tested internally prior to shipment, so engineers typically travel when their technical involvement is needed onsite. Travel can reach approximately 30% during heavier project periods, but this represents the higher end and can vary significantly based on project needs. Most customer activity is currently within the U.S.Why Consider It?-Competitive base salary, based upon experience-Work on highly customized equipment rather than repetitive, standardized machinery.-Opportunity to own projects across electrical design, programming, testing, and startup.-Growing business with a strong current backlog and additional projects on the horizon.-Long-tenured, close-knit team with a history of employee retention.-Family-oriented environment that makes an effort to work with employees around individual circumstances when possible.-Healthcare and 401(k) benefits.-Historical Christmas bonus and potential profit-sharing opportunities.-PTO/vacation may have flexibility depending on experience.-Opportunity to expand into Siemens, robotics, and other technologies as customer requirements evolve.
