This role is well suited for an accountant who enjoys owning their work, investigating discrepancies, improving processes, and working across departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. ISNA operates in a wholesale/distribution environment with significant inventory activity, so we are looking for someone who understands not only general ledger accounting and month-end close, but also how purchasing, inventory, freight, landed costs, receiving, and sales activity ultimately flow through the financial statements. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and will play an important role in the monthly close, balance-sheet reconciliations, inventory accounting, financial analysis, and continuous improvement of our accounting processes.
What You'll Do:
Perform and take ownership of assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Prepare and review general ledger and balance-sheet account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and independently drive issues to resolution. Support accurate accounting for inventory, COGS, freight, landed costs, inventory in transit, prepaid inventory/vendor balances, and related accruals. Analyze account activity and financial results to identify unusual transactions, trends, variances, and potential accounting issues. Prepare variance and root-cause analysis and communicate findings clearly to the Controller and other stakeholders. Work extensively in Net Suite to research transactions, understand transaction flows, prepare reports, reconcile accounts, and improve accounting processes. Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other accounting functions as needed. Assist with financial statement preparation, management reporting, audits, and supporting schedules. Partner with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Customer Experience, Sales, and other departments to resolve accounting and transaction issues. Help strengthen internal controls, documentation, SOPs, and accounting processes. Identify opportunities to improve reporting, automate repetitive work, and make accounting processes more efficient and reliable. Serve as a knowledgeable accounting resource to the team and provide support to the Controller on special projects and financial analysis.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for someone who can go beyond processing transactions. The right person should be comfortable researching an issue from beginning to end, understanding how transactions move through an ERP system, determining why something is incorrect, and proposing an appropriate solution.
Key qualifications include:
Strong professional accounting experience with increasing responsibility. Solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close. Hands-on experience performing balance-sheet reconciliations and independently researching discrepancies. Practical Net Suite experience is strongly preferred. Net Suite experience should extend beyond basic transaction entry or running standard reports. Experience researching transaction flows, reconciliations, saved searches/reporting, and resolving accounting issues within Net Suite is particularly valuable. Experience in wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, consumer products, or another inventory-based business environment is highly desirable. Understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, purchasing/receiving, freight and landed costs is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform variance and root-cause analysis. Strong Excel skills, including working comfortably with large data sets, Pivot Tables, lookups, and reconciliation schedules. Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and complete work accurately with limited supervision. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and non-accounting departments. A mindset focused on ownership, accuracy, continuous improvement, and follow-through.
What Success Looks Like:
Success in this position means becoming a trusted partner to the Controller and accounting team. You will be able to independently own assigned areas of the close, maintain well-supported reconciliations, identify issues before they become larger problems, understand the operational activity behind the numbers, and help make our accounting processes stronger and more efficient. We value someone who asks “why?”, not simply “what entry should I make?”About Island Stone Island Stone North America is a tile distributor serving customers through wholesale and multiple sales channels.
