Position Summary:
EQV is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to perform technical evaluations that support investment team efforts and portfolio company oversight. This role generates and validates the technical and operating assumptions that underlie financial models and investment decisions, with a particular focus on identifying and quantifying technical risk and uncertainty across upstream acquisitions. The Senior Reservoir Engineer serves as a key technical partner to Deal Teams, portfolio company management, and third-party consultants, translating complex reservoir and operating data into clear conclusions that support decision-making at all levels of the organization, from technical peers to fund investors.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Evaluation & Forecasting Generate and validate forecasts and valuations that predict future operating and economic performance from the interpretation and integration of offset well data, geologic maps, operating trends, asset history, and analogous activity Apply reservoir engineering methodologies including decline curve analysis (DCA), rate and pressure transient analysis (RTA/PTA), volumetrics, recovery, and fluid behavior Identify and quantify technical risk and uncertainty across evaluations, ensuring conclusions reflect the full range of possible outcomes Evaluate plays at various stages of maturity, spanning conventional and unconventional assets across the U.S. Lower 48 Deal Team Integration & Investment Analysis Integrate with Deal Teams to support acquisition and investment decisions, providing technical evaluation and validation of the operating and economic assumptions underlying financial models Support A&D evaluation across the full lifecycle, including pre-close diligence and post-close monitoring of asset and investment performance Contribute technical perspectives to investment recommendations, risk assessments, and go/no-go decisions Portfolio Company & Consultant Management Establish rapport with portfolio company management and monitor the performance of investments post-close Select and manage outside technical resources and consultants, ensuring quality of work product and appropriate scope Share best practices across portfolio companies and Deal Teams, including with other technical team members Communication & Reporting Communicate technical conclusions effectively to non-technical colleagues, investment committees, and other stakeholders Represent the technical function to fund investors, including participation in investor updates and technical reviews Prepare technical reports, presentations, and supporting materials that translate complex reservoir data into actionable insights
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline 8+ years of reservoir engineering experience, preferably weighted to the U.S. Lower 48 Early-career reservoir engineering at an active operator, including completion of a company-directed training program and hands-on asset managementA&D evaluation in a setting that required monitoring and management of the asset or investment after close Experience evaluating plays at various stages of maturity Reservoir engineering expertise including decline curve analysis (DCA), rate and pressure transient analysis (RTA/PTA), volumetrics, recoveries, and fluid behavior Working proficiency in Combo Curve, ARIES, and Spotfire Experience working with public data (aggregators such as Enverus or IHS, or directly from state regulatory databases)Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences Strong attention to detail and understanding of statistics, risk, and how multiple variables affect outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with a buy-side investment firm or an acquisitive operating team Experience in an investment bank or engineering consulting firmA mix of conventional and unconventional reservoir experienceSQL and Python proficiency Advanced degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline
