Accountant

Position Overview: Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART) is seeking an Accountant to support its financial and accounting operations. The selected candidate will perform detailed accounting and financial analysis, assist with public-sector budget development, review fiscal records, and prepare financial reports for management, the HART Board, and state and federal agencies. The ideal candidate will have accounting or finance experience, knowledge of governmental accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting critical deadlines.

Key Responsibilities: Perform complex accounting and financial tasks involving detailed written and numerical data. Assist in developing, reviewing, and administering public-sector budgets. Support the development and implementation of financial strategies for the organization. Review, analyze, and interpret financial and fiscal records. Prepare financial reports for the HART Board, State Auditor, and federal and state grant programs. Prepare accurate financial statements, statistical reports, correspondence, and other documentation. Interpret applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies affecting governmental accounting and financial operations. Provide financial updates and reports to senior management, directors, public officials, and other stakeholders. Ensure financial records and reports are accurate, complete, and confidential. Collaborate with internal departments, government agencies, and external organizations. Manage competing priorities, respond to changing requirements, and meet established deadlines. Support departmental goals and contribute to effective financial and administrative operations.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.1–3 years of professional experience in accounting or finance. At least 1 year of experience with governmental accounting laws, guidelines, and regulations. Experience reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting financial records and preparing reports. Experience handling detailed financial and numerical data. Experience assisting with public-sector budget development. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong organizational, analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and data entry.
