DOEUnited States Texas Houston ContractPower Generation, T&DT&DPosition Overview Mechanical Engineer II supports the design, installation, commissioning, and reliable operation of power-generation and industrial mechanical systems. This role works with engineering, project, field, vendor, and operations teams to deliver safe, practical solutions for rotating equipment and associated balance-of-plant systems.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and review mechanical specifications, calculations, equipment datasheets, layouts, P&IDs, and vendor drawings. Support the selection and sizing of piping, valves, pumps, fuel systems, ventilation, cooling, exhaust, and other auxiliary equipment. Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical, controls, civil, construction, and operations teams. Evaluate site conditions and translate project requirements into constructible mechanical scope and installation plans. Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities. Review vendor proposals, resolve technical questions, and verify compliance with project requirements and applicable codes. Investigate equipment issues, support root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective or reliability improvements. Maintain accurate engineering records, redlines, equipment documentation, and as-built information. Required
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution. Four to eight years of mechanical-engineering experience in power generation, industrial facilities, oil and gas, petrochemical, rotating equipment, or a related field. Working knowledge of piping systems, rotating equipment, pressure equipment, and mechanical balance-of-plant systems. Ability to read P&IDs, equipment layouts, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications. Strong problem-solving, communication, and interdisciplinary coordination skills. Ability to travel to project sites and work safely around operating industrial equipment. Preferred
Qualifications: Experience with gas turbines, generators, modular equipment, or field commissioning. Familiarity with ASME, API, NFPA, OSHA, and relevant industrial standards. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Plant 3D, or similar engineering software. Engineer in Training certification or progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
Work Environment: The position includes office-based engineering and work at active project sites.
