Our client is a well-established and highly respected engineering and consulting firm with a strong presence throughout the Northeast. Known for delivering innovative infrastructure, environmental, and geotechnical solutions, the organization partners with both public and private sector clients on impactful projects that shape local communities and regional development. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, engineers, scientists, field personnel, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable environmental regulations and project requirements. This role will provide a combination of project management, technical documentation, field coordination, environmental compliance, and client interaction, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility as experience develops.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of environmental projects from initiation through completion. Coordinate and oversee environmental field activities, including site investigations, sampling, monitoring, remediation, and environmental compliance activities. Conduct and document field observations and prepare detailed field reports, daily reports, photographs, logs, and other project documentation. Assist with the preparation of environmental reports, technical summaries, work plans, proposals, specifications, and regulatory submittals. Review project documentation, field data, laboratory analytical results, and other technical information for completeness and accuracy. Assist with environmental investigations, site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation projects. Coordinate with subcontractors, laboratories, drilling contractors, remediation contractors, and other third-party vendors. Track project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and outstanding tasks while communicating potential issues to the Project Manager. Assist with project cost tracking, invoicing, change orders, and other administrative aspects of project management. Communicate with clients, property owners, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders in a professional manner. Help ensure projects comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permit requirements. Support preparation for and participation in client meetings, project meetings, and site meetings. Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation is completed in accordance with company procedures. Perform occasional travel to project sites throughout New Jersey and the surrounding region. Participate in field activities that may require working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Approximately 2–5 years of experience in environmental consulting, engineering, construction, remediation, environmental compliance, or a related field preferred. Previous experience with environmental field investigations, sampling, remediation, or regulatory compliance is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and interpret technical documents, site plans, specifications, and environmental reports. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Experience with environmental databases, GIS, AutoCAD, or other technical software is a plus. Ability to work independently in the field while also functioning effectively as part of a project team. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred, but not required.
