Transfer Machine Operator

Position Description: The Transfer Machine is a hot-mix asphalt transfer vehicle which separates the delivery truck and the paver to allow continuous paving through noncontact, uninterrupted delivery of material to the paver. The shuttle operation and surge capability allows trucks to arrive, unload and return to the plant without waiting. • Must have a basic knowledge of the mechanics and hydraulics, and the limitations of the machine. • Must have skills to conduct an inspection checklist on equipment such as tracks, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water. • Must keep equipment clean, lubricated, and in good working order, including good housekeeping. • Must receive and execute directions from the Paving Foreman or Superintendent. • Must operate the transfer machine in coordination with the dump man and Paver Operator to match the material inflow, on-board storage and material discharge to the paver to meet the prescribed mix and laydown goals, facilitating non-stop paving. • Must safely operate equipment in and in the midst of active traffic. • Must have a basic knowledge of abilities and limitations of the machine in all applications. • Must have the ability to operate the vehicle safely in job site situations and follow the policies and procedures of the company. • Must perform pre- and post-operation walk around inspections and report any mechanical issues that need more attention by maintenance personnel

Working Conditions: Must travel from site to site. Exposure to Dust Loud Noises Work in inclement weather conditions. Physical Condition: Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities such as: heavy lifting and climbing, operating motorized equipment and vehicles, work in confined spaces, work at heights, work around heavy construction equipment.
