The Controller serves as the financial leader of Greenstreet Construction, responsible for leading the company’s accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, forecasting, and compliance. This role is critical to maintaining the financial health of the company, supporting project performance, and providing the insight needed to guide sound business decisions. This is a hands‑on leadership role for an experienced accounting professional with a strongaccrual accounting mindsetand a deep understanding of how day‑to‑day accounting activity impacts the broader financial position of the company. The Controller will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, develop meaningful financial metrics, monitor company and project performance, and proactively identify trends, risks, and opportunities. We’re looking for someone who can move confidently between the details and the big picture, maintaining strong accounting practices while turning financial information into clear, actionable insight for leadership. This is a full‑time, in‑person position based in our Lubbock office. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Finance Departmentby overseeing day‑to‑day accounting operations, job cost functions, financial processes, and the accounting team. Maintain Strong Accrual‑Based Accountingby ensuring revenue, expenses, accruals, prepaid expenses, liabilities, adjusting entries, and other financial activity are recognized accurately and in the appropriate accounting periods. Oversee all financial reportingincluding monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, budget‑to‑actual reporting, cash flow projections, job cost reports, and other management reporting. Lead Construction Accountingincluding job costing, WIP reporting, construction billing, retainage, trade partner payments, project accruals, and job profitability and performance. Manage and Optimize Sage 300 CRE, ensuring accurate setup, reporting, and integration across departments. Develop Financial Metrics & Insightsthat give ownership a clear understanding of the company’s financial position, performance, trends, risks, and opportunities. Maintain regulatory compliancefor all tax, insurance, and financial requirements. Manage Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flowin alignment with company goals. Analyze Company & Project Performanceto identify meaningful variances, trends, risks, and opportunities and communicate actionable insights to leadership. Support Project Teamswith job cost forecasting, financial tracking, and accurate project financial information. Coordinate with external partnersincluding CPAs, auditors, banks, lenders, insurance providers, and other financial professionals. Contribute to leadership decisionswith financial modeling, scenario planning, and strategic recommendation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, ideally as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or in a similar senior accounting role
- Strong, hands‑on knowledge of accrual accounting and accrual bookkeeping
- Sage 300 CRE experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of construction industry financial practices, including job costing, WIP reporting, construction billing, trade partner payments, retainage, and joint check agreements
- Ability to prepare, analyze, and explain financial statements
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Ability to develop meaningful financial metrics and communicate financial information to ownership, leadership, and non‑accounting team members
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow‑through
- Exceptional communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficient in Excel and financial modeling
- Strategic mindset with hands‑on approach to problem‑solving and process improvement
- High level of integrity and commitment to accuracy, accountability, and transparency
- Experience working with external auditors, lenders, insurance providers, and CPAsCPA welcomed but not required
- Ability to work full‑time, in person at Greenstreet’s Lubbock office
