In this role, you will take ownership of a Darqmatter product design and shepherd it through the final stages of engineering verification, rigorous testing, global regulatory compliance, and factory introduction. The ideal candidate thrives in the high-stakes, fast-paced world of consumer hardware. You are meticulous with manufacturing documentation, possess deep expertise in validation testing, and know how to navigate the complex compliance landscape to successfully launch high-volume products.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation & Engineering Print Management:
Own the complete TDP (Technical Data Package), ensuring all 3D models, 2D manufacturing prints, and assembly drawings are production-ready. Establish precise Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-up analyses, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) dimensions for high-volume injection-molded, stamped, and die-cast components. Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and product documentation within our PLM system, ensuring seamless communication with manufacturing partners.
Testing, Validation & Quality Reliability:
Define, develop, and execute comprehensive environmental and reliability testing procedures (e.g., drop, ingress protection/IP-rating, thermal shock, tumble, cosmetics wear, and cyclic button/connector testing).Design custom test fixtures and automated test setups to accelerate internal stress-testing cycles. Root-cause mechanical failures during the DVT (Design Verification Testing) phase and implement robust, rapid design revisions.
Compliance, Regulatory & Launch Coordination:
Guide the physical hardware through global regulatory and compliance testing (including CE, FCC, UL, RoHS, and WEEE requirements) in partnership with external test labs. Collaborate closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and factory operations teams to ensure smooth transition from EVT/DVT to mass production (PVT).Support vendor and factory management, traveling to manufacturing sites as needed to resolve first-article inspection failures and optimize assembly line yields.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
3+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with a proven track record of launching handheld or portable consumer electronic devices to the retail market.
CAD & Drafting: Mastery of 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or NX) and expert-level proficiency in creating detailed 2D engineering drawings utilizing ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
Materials & Processes: Deep understanding of manufacturing processes for consumer electronics, specifically plastic injection molding, overmolding, cosmetic surface finishes, sheet metal, and waterproofing/sealing methodologies.
Testing Acuity: Hands-on experience developing test plans, processing data, and troubleshooting structural or environmental mechanical failures.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing high-volume consumer product launches Strong familiarity with localized compliance standards for consumer safety, battery integration, and wireless shielding. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for drop-testing simulation and thermal dissipation analysis.
