A great UHY client is seeking a Controller. The ideal candidate will have healthcare or similarly complex industry experience, strong hands-on accounting and finance expertise, and approximately 12+ years of experience with significant management experience. The Controller role is a hybrid position with 3 days a week onsite. This is a direct hire position. Controller Responsibilities Lead regional finance activities, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and financial analysis. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and remain hands-on with journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, and balance sheet accuracy. Review financial results and develop analytics to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable recommendations. Design and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and decision-support tools using financial and operational data. Partner with operations, physicians, practice leadership, and business units to support strategic initiatives and growth plans. Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership, translating complex financial information into clear business insights. Present financial results, analysis, and recommendations to executives, physicians, Boards, Finance Committees, and other stakeholders. Drive finance transformation initiatives, including process standardization, automation, digital tools, and AI-enabled analytics. Oversee financial statements, reconciliations, internal controls, and accounting processes to ensure accuracy and compliance. Support revenue cycle oversight, including AR, cash clearing, credit balances, contractual reserves, bad debt, and denials. Confirm the accuracy of AP invoicing and support the integration of accounting and operational financial processes. Ensure financial systems capture the information required by third-party payers, practice management, physicians, leadership, and external stakeholders. Coordinate payroll functions and related reporting. Lead financial analysis for capital expenditures, new projects, acquisitions, physician recruitment, and other business cases. Support product line, service line, and practice profitability analysis. Participate in inventory management and inventory counts as needed. Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, financial performance, and operational efficiency. Build strong relationships across Finance, IT, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and physician leadership. Mentor and develop finance and accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Controller Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Approximately 12+ years of progressive professional accounting and finance experience.5–8+ years of management or leadership experience within accounting, finance, FP&A, or a related function. Healthcare experience is strongly preferred, particularly hospital systems, private practices, multi-site healthcare organizations, or health insurance. Candidates from other complex industries may be considered. Strong combination of accounting and finance experience, with the ability to remain hands-on while also operating strategically. Proven experience with journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statements, and accounting controls. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, financial analytics, and business partnering. Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate clear recommendations to non-financial stakeholders. Experience presenting financial information to executives, Boards, physicians, or other senior leadership. Advanced Excel skills and experience with Power BI or similar analytics and visualization tools. Experience leading finance transformation, process improvement, automation, or digital analytics initiatives. Strong executive presence, polished communication style, and ability to build credibility and trust across diverse stakeholder groups. High intellectual curiosity with a proactive approach to questioning existing processes and identifying improvements. Strong critical thinking, adaptability, and ability to navigate ambiguity and complex business environments. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, IT, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and other functional leaders. Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial audiences. Self-starter who is organized, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple priorities. CPA and/or Master’s degree preferred.
