Seasonal Accountant — Hospitality & EventsFulton Market Social | River North, Chicago$25–$50 per hour | 100% Onsite | Immediate Start Available Fulton Market Social is seeking an experienced Seasonal Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting for our hospitality group and seasonal pop-up operations. We’re looking for someone who understands restaurant, bar, nightclub, and event accounting—and can independently maintain accurate books, reconcile revenue, manage expenses, and provide clear financial reporting across multiple venues and business entities. This position works entirely onsite in our River North office. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.
Responsibilities: Maintain accurate books across multiple business entities, venues, and departments, including journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. Reconcile daily sales from Square, Toast, ticketing platforms, and other revenue sources to processor settlements and bank deposits. Investigate discrepancies involving cash, credit-card payments, refunds, chargebacks, discounts, processing fees, and missing deposits. Properly account for advance ticket sales, gift cards, deferred revenue, tips, and service charges. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, merchant accounts, and cash activity; maintain supporting documentation. Manage accounts payable, verify invoices, identify duplicate charges, and coordinate approved vendor payments. Manage accounts receivable, private-event invoices, customer deposits, and outstanding balances. Allocate expenses to the correct venue, entity, department, and accounting period; reconcile intercompany transactions and reimbursements. Record and reconcile payroll, payroll taxes, benefits, and tip liabilities using reports from Paychex, QuickBooks Workforce, Square, and Toast. Reconcile inventory and cost of goods sold for food, beverages, merchandise, and other venue operations. Track seasonal setup costs, equipment, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets using appropriate accounting treatment. Prepare month-end reconciliations, balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements, and cash-flow reports. Analyze labor costs, operating expenses, margins, and budget variances by venue. Prepare supporting schedules for applicable sales, use, and local taxes, and coordinate timely filings with accounting leadership or outside tax professionals. Maintain vendor W-9 records and support applicable year-end information reporting. Establish clear accounting procedures, approval controls, and organized records that support accurate reporting and audit readiness.
Qualifications: Three or more years of hands-on accounting experience, including direct experience with restaurants, bars, nightclubs, hospitality groups, or event operations. Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, including general ledger management, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting. Working familiarity with Square, Toast, Paychex, and QuickBooks Workforce, particularly sales, settlement, payroll, and tip reports. Experience maintaining books for multiple entities or locations and reconciling intercompany activity. Strong understanding of accrual accounting, accounts payable and receivable, month-end close, inventory, and cost of goods sold. Experience reconciling POS sales to merchant settlements and bank deposits. Understanding of hospitality-specific accounting issues, including tip liabilities, service charges, event deposits, and advance sales. Familiarity with applicable Illinois and Chicago tax requirements and the ability to identify issues requiring review by tax professionals. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, SUMIFS, and reconciliation of large data sets. Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, analytical judgment, and follow-through. Ability to work independently, resolve discrepancies, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with venue managers and leadership. A degree in accounting or a related field, CPA designation, and experience supporting seasonal or multi-state hospitality operations are preferred.
Compensation: The anticipated base pay range is $25–$50 per hour. The offered rate will reflect relevant hospitality accounting experience, proficiency with our systems, experience managing multiple entities, and demonstrated ability to independently maintain accurate books and financial reporting.
