The school serves 78 remarkable students in 10 self-contained classrooms, each utilizing an 8:1:3 structure. You will have the chance to work closely with students who have level 3 autism, significant cognitive disabilities, and severe behaviors, as well as students who use alternative communication methods and are primarily non-verbal. Your hours would be 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. While there are no standard planning periods during the day, extra time up to 40 hours per week is approved for those coming in early or staying late for paperwork, IEPs, or planning. The assignment begins with a thorough two-week training and onboarding process and extends through June 2027.
Qualifications:
NY State Special Education license (Students w/ Disabilities) required, or actively pursuing licensure Recent graduates and those with out-of-state licenses encouraged to apply—support is available for licensure transfer Strongly preferred: experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, or alternative communication/medical needs Skilled in alternative assessments and modifying curricula preferredResponsibilities: Teach and support K-12 students within self-contained classrooms, matched to preferred age range Adapt lessons and assessments to meet individualized education plans (IEPs) Foster a supportive classroom environment for children with diverse and complex needs Collaborate with classroom and therapy professionalsLeverage your expertise and compassion to help students thrive.
