Surgical Recovery Registered Nurse

Mercy seeks a Registered Nurse for our Surgical Recovery unit to provide high-quality post-operative care to patients transitioning from surgery to inpatient recovery. The RN will assess and monitor post-anesthesia patients, manage pain and surgical sites, administer IV medications, and respond to changes in condition using evidence-based protocols. Responsibilities include collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and allied health staff, documenting care in the EMR, educating patients and families, and supporting safe, compassionate discharges or transfers. Provide comprehensive post-operative assessment and monitoring for surgical recovery patients Administer IV fluids, medications, and pain management therapies per physician orders and protocols Assess surgical sites, manage dressings, drains, and address early signs of complications Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care plans Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, pain control, mobility, and discharge instructions Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards in the surgical recovery environment Participate in continuous learning, skills development, and quality improvement initiatives Post-anesthesia patient monitoring Surgical recovery care protocols IV therapy and medication administration Pain management and sedation monitoring Wound and drain care Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation Vital signs and hemodynamic assessment Patient and family education Infection prevention and control Interdisciplinary care coordination Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Active RN license in state of practice Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtained within specified timeframe Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or related perioperative certification preferred
